Sherwin
A 64-year-old former senior leader at Advocates for Children in Cartersville faces 31 criminal charges after his arrest by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.
Scott Alan Sherwin of Rome was taken into custody last Thursday, March 5th, at his home by Bartow County deputies. Authorities booked him into the Bartow County Detention Center on Friday, March 6th, at approximately 2:30 p.m. He faces 15 counts of sexual extortion, 15 counts of forgery in the first degree, and one count of false statements and writings. He remains in custody pre-trial.
The investigation stays active, and the Sheriff’s Office has not released full reports or further details.
Advocates for Children—a Cartersville-based nonprofit that supports children, youth, and families through advocacy, court programs, and related services—issued a public statement on Thursday, March 5th. The organization learned on February 26th of an active law enforcement investigation into a senior leadership team member. The probe covered activities outside his role at the organization, including external contracts with other agencies and local governments, pre-employment matters, and violations of organizational policy and code of ethics during his employment.
Advocates for Children described those violations as administrative in nature.
The organization immediately terminated Sherwin, revoked all access to facilities, systems, and programs, and began fully cooperating with authorities.
Advocates for Children stressed that it has no information indicating that Sherwin harmed any child in the organization’s care or custody. Safeguarding protocols, supervision practices, and reporting procedures remain in place and are actively followed across all programs.
The group identified Sherwin as the Senior Director of Operations.
Advocates for Children directed further questions about the investigation to the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.
Updates will be provided as more public information becomes available. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to contact the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.
