It’s one of the most popular shows on Netflix, and it is bringing tourists to Rome.
Last year, an estimated 5,000 fans of the show Stranger Things visited the Creel House, known locally as the Claremont House on Second Avenue, which is one of the major filming locations for the show.
So far this year, around 2,000 people have visited.
Instead of just taking a selfie in front of the house and then heading back on the highway, local tourism officials want to entice visitors to explore Rome by going downtown to eat dinner or enjoy some of the other attractions the area has to offer.
“We have created the Stranger Things in Rome Tour,” said Kristi Kent with the Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism. “We are working to getting that launched next month. Of course, the tour is going to show you another filming location, which is over at Berry College. If you remember from the show, that location was the Pennhurst Mental Hospital.

Netflix has donated that set, including the large metal sign, to the City of Rome.
“We wanted to make that a location that you can come and visit in Downtown Rome,” Kent added. “Of course, we are not setting it up at Berry College because it was donated to the city. We are setting up the location that will have the actual backdrop of what that film set looked like over at the Town Green. Then that huge piece of art from the set will be in front of that. So, you will be able to see what the full film set looked like, with that Pennhurst metal art.”
Again, the Stranger Things in Rome tour is expected to launch next month.
