President Donald Trump is scheduled to be in Rome on Thursday for a couple of events.
The presidentwill deliver remarks at Coosa Steel Corporation on Darlington Drive in Rome on Thursday afternoon, but you must register to get in.
According to Chris Fincher with Floyd County Emergency Management, you can expect an increased security presence during the afternoon hours
“Things change, but I will say this—he has already been here a couple of times, in two different capacities,” he said. “One was as a sitting president; the other was as a campaigning candidate. The presence of his entourage is much more when he is the sitting president, and with that comes some extra security protocols that come into place. It’s the same for every president.”
The visit will also impact traffic locally.
“The security will have you close down a roadway for a number of minutes—that was there is a straight corridor,” Fincher said. “I anticipate that is probably going to be the case here as well. During business hours is what I understand, from what we are able to talk about. It’s probably a pretty good day to work from home if you can. Either that, or maybe, depending on the business you work in, plan on going in late and staying over.”
The Hatfield remote dump site near the airport in Armuchee will close at noon Thursday and will remain closed until 7 a.m. on Friday.
