The Rome-Floyd County Fire Department is celebrating 50 years of fire prevention and education with a special event later this month.
They are throwing it back to 1976 for their Peace, Love, & Fire Safety 50th Celebration.
The public is invited to slide on their bell bottoms, fluff up that big hair, and boogie their way to the Forum River Center on October 24 from 10 am–6 pm.
“We’re so excited, and so happy with the way the retail and restaurants on Broad Street are excited about it and they want to support it,” said Fire educator Linda Patty.
The free, community event will include music, games, dance teams, nostalgia, prizes, and more.
You may notice some other 1976 references around town, including a throwback look for firefighters.
“When we released on our social media pages a couple of weeks ago about the invite to our Peace, Love, & Fire Safety 50th Celebration, we kind of gave you a little hint; keep your eyes open,” said Fire safety educator Shasta Farrer. “Things will start transforming into 1976, and so October 1, our uniforms switched over for the month of October.”
The throwback look includes powder blue or baby blue shirts.
Farrer added that if you are in Downtown Rome, look to the skies for something new.
Again, the Peace, Love, & Fire Safety 50th Celebration is on October 24 at the Forum.
