NAMI, or the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is an association with a branch in Rome that promotes mental illness awareness and hosts support platforms for those struggling with mental illness. They host weekly support meetings and provide resources for those in need. On top of the resources they provide, they also host events to fundraise for mental health support and awareness. With the NAMIWalks event being a major fundraising event for NAMI Rome.
Lining up on Saturday morning at Heritage Park in Rome, people came from all over West Georgia, including Georgia House Representative Katie Dempsey and Floyd County Commissioner Scottie Hancock. After an opening ceremony featuring speeches by NAMI Rome President Bonnie Moore and Katie Dempsey, the walk began. Attendees walked with their signs and t-shirts, all in support of mental health awareness.
