The GBI has been called in to investigate an officer-involved shooting in Cartersville on Tuesday.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation
31-year-old Markus Maurice Williams pointed a gun at a McDonald’s employee at 6:30 in the morning from the drive-through window. After which, 911 was called, and a Bartow County Sheriff’s deputy arrived at the McDonald’s off of Frank Harris Parkway in Cartersville. The deputy later located Williams in a nearby parking lot, still holding the gun. The deputy gave Williams commands, but Williams did not comply. Williams then leveled the gun at the deputy and fired. Returning fire, the deputy shot Williams. Later, Williams was taken to a hospital where he passed.
An autopsy has been confirmed to be conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. An aspect of the investigation that is still largely active and ongoing.
