We are close to the start of the first-ever school year for the Northwest Georgia Charter Academy in Cave Spring.
Teachers report on Monday, and several events to celebrate have been scheduled leading up to the first day of school on August 3.
“We are asking for the community—every community—Polk, Rome City, Floyd County, to line our streets and welcome our teachers on their first day between 7:15 and 8 a.m. on Monday,” said Community Engagement Committee Chair Cassie Taylor Potts. “We are asking them to do the same thing on August 3 for our students, just to show the love and support that I know our community can show and give to those who are getting ready to start a fun year of school.”
There are opportunities for the public to see the new school as well.
“The sneak peek date is July 28, which is a Tuesday from 6 until 7,” Potts said. “We have an open house, which is just for our students and teachers to get to know each other. That’s July 30. July 31 will be our ribbon-cutting with the Chamber, which we are so excited about, and that will be at 10 a.m. The executive director for the State Charter School Commission will be in attendance at our ribbon-cutting, and he will be speaking.”
There is still time to get on the wait list if you are interested in your child attending the academy.
“We have wait lists in all grades,” Potts added. “They are small wait lists, so I encourage anyone who has been told there is a wait list to still sign up. Kindergarten has a couple of seats open right now, so if you have a kindergartener who will be starting this year, I encourage you to get that seat before it’s taken. With the wait list, the goal is to have it two classrooms deep. If we have a full classroom, we want at least two classroom sizes on the wait list.”
The academy is looking for two bus drivers. If you have a CDL and are interested, you can visit nwgacharteracademy.org.
