A one-year-old child died as a result of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 100 and Fields Road south of Cedartown in Polk County on Saturday.
According to the Georgia State Patrol:
A trooper from Post 3 in Cartersville was dispatched to the wreck at around 2:50 a.m. and was advised that the child was not breathing.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford Mustang was traveling at a speed too fast to negotiate a curve, traveled off the right side of the roadway, and struck a concrete culvert head-on.
The child was in the front seat with no car seat.
She was transported to Floyd Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.
The GSP Troop A’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation.
