-Rome-Floyd County Fire Department News Release-
At approximately 8:44 AM on June 14, 2026, the Rome-Floyd Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 494 West Union Road NE with someone trapped inside.
Two engine companies, two tankers, one squad unit, two chief officers, and three investigators responded, with a total of 20 personnel on scene.
Upon arrival, the first units found a one-story single-family dwelling with heavy smoke and fire conditions. Fire crews initiated an aggressive fire attack and were able to bring the fire under control and fully extinguish it.
Unfortunately, one occupant did not escape and succumbed to their injuries.
The body was transferred to the Floyd County Coroner’s Office. Identification of the occupant is pending. No firefighters were injured during this response.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
