-Staff reports-
The Rome Community Redevelopment Committee got a look at a conceptual design for the Garrard Park project located at the former GE site in West Rome.
The concept includes a large playground with an airport or aircraft theme.
The drawings show a structure that appears to be a control tower with three slides coming out of it, and monkey bars in the shape of an airplane.
Rome’s original airport was located in the area years ago.
Other proposed amenities include a pedal park/pump track, internal walking connections, and access to existing trail systems.
The estimated cost is $1,733,680, consisting of $1,573,680 in grant funds and $160,000 cash match or cash contribution provided by the City of Rome.
The city will also be responsible for the construction, while the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority will be responsible for submitting reimbursement requests to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
The project must be completed and the park open by October.
