This Memorial Day, the Exchange Club of Rome hosted a Memorial Day Ceremony at the Coosa Fairgrounds. The ceremony served as a time of remembrance for those who gave their lives in service to their country.
The ceremony was led by Air Force Veteran Harry Wise, and featured a to-scale replica of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier brought by the American Legion Honor Guard, who also performed the firing volley at the ceremony. The president of the hosting club, Joyce Gasden, spoke at the event as well, hosting the wreath ceremony after guest speaker Lt. Col. Michael B. Baka spoke about fallen soldiers both native to Rome and elsewhere. All spoken of were remembered with regaled stories of heroism, honor, and ultimate sacrifice.
Guest Speaker Lt. Col. Baka spoke, “Memorial Day is not just a holiday. It’s a promise. A promise that we will never forget those who gave thier lives so that we may live ours in freedom.”
