It is graduation time for local high school seniors.
“There is going to be some increased traffic around the schools at times when we don’t normally see traffic around the schools,” said Captain Ron Hunton with the Floyd County Police Department. “I think all the schools are doing their ceremonies on campus. They are all planning on an outdoor event.”
It will be a busy week for the school resource officers.
“All of our SROs come together at each graduation,” Hunton said. “It’s traffic control, but even before that starts, it’s walking through, making sure everything is going to be safe for visitors coming in—checking for any hazards or anything like that. It starts before the first person shows up and before the first student steps on the field. Each SRO at each high school is responsible for coming up with their own plan, if you will, for where people are going to be assigned. We do ask for folks to have some patience. Everybody typically gets there at around the same time, so sometimes, it can be a challenge with traffic.
Armuchee High will be the first school to hold graduation exercises on Tuesday.
Pepperell High School seniors will get their diplomas on Wednesday; Coosa High School’s graduation will be on Thursday; and Model seniors will graduate on Friday.
All of the ceremonies are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the football stadiums at each school.
However, there is a possibility of rain later this week.
Rome High’s graduation is set for Saturday at 9 a.m. at Barron Stadium.
