The Floyd County Commission approved a change order for Quality Plus Services, Inc., in the amount of $168,800 for work at the Historic Courthouse and $20,000 additional contingency for debris removal and testing.
“This does require a budget increase, but I want to be sure that you know that all of this will be covered by our insurance proceeds,” Gass said. “The order is a total of 168,000, and the bulk of that is for the scaffolding. The other pieces of that are for some things we asked them to do as far as securing the building by adding some plywood to window openings and door openings as we’re preparing to reopen the street.”
During the caucus session, Facilities Director Ryan Davis told commissioners that demolition has been completed at the Historic Courthouse, and Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) has been notified that stabilization work is expected to wrap up no later than Friday, May 22. Once that work is complete, Fifth Avenue will be able to safely reopen.
Also during Tuesday’s meeting, the commission read proclamations for Public Works Week, Law Enforcement Memorial Week, and National Salvation Army Week.
