The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the one-county Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area recorded gains in labor force, employment, and job growth in March. The unemployment rate was 3.3%, which was down four-tenths of a percentage point over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.4%.
“There’s no better way to mark Economic Development Week than with measurable results,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “With the state labor force and employment both reaching all-time highs and unemployment falling across all metro areas, more Georgians are securing good-paying jobs that support families, build the future, and strengthen the communities they call home.”
The labor force in Rome rose by 178 over the month and decreased by 244 from March 2025, reaching 48,271.
Rome finished the month with 46,686 employed residents, up 352 over the month and down by 185 from March 2025.
Rome ended March with 46,700 jobs, up 100 over the month and down 600 from the same time last year.
In March, initial unemployment claims in Rome decreased by 13 from the previous month and decreased by 166 from the same month a year ago, totaling 244.
