A former high school teacher pleads guilty to sexual exploitation of a child.
Fifty-four-year-old Mark Russell Mathison appeared in Bartow Superior Court for a non-negotiated plea.
He pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child, sexual contact by a person in a position of trust in the first degree, and first-degree cruelty to children.
He received a 15-year sentence with 5 years to serve incarcerated and the remainder on probation.
According to the warrant:
Between September 8 and October 20, 2023, Mathison, a Cartersville High School teacher, solicited and received nude images from a student and had obscene telephone contact with the child.
