Rome Police continue their investigation into a fatal shooting early Sunday morning on North Broad Street.
The shooting has gotten the attention of the Rome Alcohol Control Commission, which discussed the issue briefly during its Monday night meeting at Rome City Hall.
The body of 22-year-old Chancellore Jabez Donaldson has been taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.
Donaldson was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Family Dollar, and witnesses stated that several people had gathered in the parking lot after leaving a party at The Vault, a nearby club.
During Monday’s ACC meeting, it was brought up that The Vault does not have a license to serve alcohol, and while it was up in the air whether or not they have been serving, it was alleged that, at times, guests would bring their own alcohol.
This would still require licensure, and the ACC plans to look into the situation further.
No action regarding alcohol distance requirements
Also, on Monday, the ACC continued discussing an issue that was brought up during last month’s meeting, dealing with alcohol distance requirements.
While initially they had no motions to bring the matter to the table, the person wanting to open up a wine bar on Third Avenue—a location within 300 feet of a church–appeared at the meeting to request an amendment to the ordinance that would allow for a classy establishment serving wine and beer alongside charcuterie boards during brunch hours to be allowed.
No action was taken.
Monthly drag show at Peachy Pub approved
The ACC did approve a request for a monthly drag show at Peachy Pub on Broad Street.
A one-off event was recently held, and proved such a success that the owners of the establishment want to host a show on one Sunday each month.
The request was made into a motion that was approved.
