April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the familiar blue pinwheels will return next week.
The Family Resource Center will present its 2026 Pinwheel Garden, sponsored by Atrium Health Floyd and Harbin Clinic, on Thursday, April 23, at 12:15 p.m. at the entrance of Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center.
This year’s theme is Partnerships & Possibilities.
“It reminds us that attitude matters,” said Tina Bartleson, Director of the Family Resource Center. “When we work in partnership, each taking a little bit of the puzzle, we are able to surround children and families with support, and we are able to stop child abuse.”
The FRC has partnerships with the Sexual Assault Center, Restoration Rome, Harbor House, CASA, Hospitality House, the Rome-Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth, and other non-profits.
Bartleson spoke about the importance of working together.
“There are times that families feel overwhelmed and in crisis,” she said. “During these times, it is important that our system, our schools, government, and agencies ask good questions, such as how can I help, even if I am facing barriers or if we have restrictions of resources, and what can we do to build a scenario so that families are supported? When agencies are working together for every child, we address problems faced by families in the most impactful way.”
Earlier this week, both the city and county commissions read proclamations recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Rome and Floyd County.
