The Rome City Commission will revisit a request for a coin-operated amusement machine waiver for a North Rome convenience store when it meets on Monday.
The waiver for Stop N Go, 400A Calhoun Avenue, was tabled during the commission’s last meeting.
The store is located between a church and a residence, so it cannot comply with the distance requirement in the ordinance that states a business with COAMs must be 300 feet from a church and 150 feet from a residence.
The ordinance was adopted in 2024.
Also on the agenda is a contract for the construction of Walker Mountain Landfill Phase 9 with T&K Construction, a task order for Landfill Phase 9 construction Assurance Services with Atlantic Coast Consulting, Inc., and a Five-Year Permit Work Update for Walker Mountain Landfill Phases 4 through 9 with Atlantic Coast Consulting, Inc.
A Change Order for the Burwell Creek Sewer project is also on the agenda.
The commission will also read proclamations for Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful’s 50th Anniversary, Garden Club Week, Child Abuse Prevention Month, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, and National Small Business Week.
Commissioners will also consider the appointments of Brianna Hightower to the Rome/Floyd Planning Commission, Mary Hardin Thornton to Rome/Floyd Parks and Recreation, and Ben Winkelman & Sarah Johnson to the 2026 GAWP Excellence in Community.
The city commission meeting starts at 6:30 pm at Rome City Hall.
During the caucus at 5 pm, the commission will hear a report from Tourism Executive Director Lisa Smith.
