The Floyd County Police Department has released traffic statistics for 2025.
There is some good news, according to PFC Mallory Boatfield with the Floyd County Police Department
“Overall, our crashes were down last year,” she said. “Fatalities were down in a three-year comparison. Some interesting things for drivers to know: the peak times for crashes to occur in Floyd County are between 6 and 8 a.m., and between 4 and 6 p.m. Mondays and Fridays are the peak days.”
The most crashes in the county occurred on Calhoun Road, followed by Maple Road, Old Dalton Road, and Blacks Bluff Road.
Boatfield also spoke about contributing factors to crashes.
“The top one was an object or animal, which is sometimes unavoidable,” she said. “Failure to yield was the second one, and misjudged clearance was the third one.”
Following too closely was the 4th leading cause, followed by driving too fast for conditions.
Boatfield and Captain Ron Hunton were asked about distracted driving as a cause of automobile accidents.
“In 2025, it looks like distracted driving was listed as the number one factor in 50 crashes in Floyd County,” Boatfield said.
“That is a little bit harder to put a number on,” Hunton added. “If you are in a crash and I ask if you were distracted by your phone, or something else, you are probably going to say no.”
Boatfield and Hunton were guests earlier this week on WRGA’s First News with Doug Walker.
