Berry College Student Enterprises will present its annual spring market this weekend.
Find handmade jewelry, artwork, fresh produce, food, and more from a variety of vendors offering products from the Berry Student Enterprises and campus entrepreneurs.
“We’ve got 89 vendors, total,” said Marie Fossett, Retail Manager. “About eight of those are external vendors from the community. So, we will have anything from flower bouquets to homemade candles, and all sorts of good stuff coming from our community.
“This is actually set to be the biggest market that Berry has ever done,” said Hunter Fossett, Farm Enterprise Manager. “I think last spring we had close to 70 to 75 vendors, so we are adding 14 or 15 more to that.”
The market is this Saturday from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm on the lawn at Evans Hall.
“We will have parking,” Hunter said. “We’ll have signs out as soon as they pull into campus. I think the best place to park would be behind McAllister—that parking lot that combines Evans and McAllister. That’s the biggest one that we have, and it’s the closest one to the area. So, I would imagine that would be the best place to park, and it’s a very short walk to the area. There will be parking behind the Cage as well.
Since October 2008, the student enterprises have existed to provide students with an entrepreneurship ‘laboratory’ in which to run small businesses, bestowing them with opportunities for higher-level leadership positions and transferring entrepreneurial, business, and life skills.
The enterprises are organized in three large categories according to the essence of their work.
The hospitality and retail enterprises include six enterprises that offer accommodations for a uniquely Berry environment, blending a distinctly historic feel with modern-day comfort. They serve as a creative retail outlet for special Berry products, such as custom-made furniture, personal care products, hand-sewn materials, and historic elements from the Oak Hill Museum and Martha Berry’s legacy.
The Berry Farms enterprises are comprised of five enterprises that effectively and efficiently use Berry College’s land and natural resources to provide a wide range of products. These include great-tasting beef, high-quality artisan cheeses, honey, beeswax products, and plants and fresh produce.
The specialty services enterprises provide a variety of services satisfying specific Berry College and community needs, including middle school and high school tutoring, bicycle parts and repairs, and strategic consulting services to other enterprises and local businesses.
