The Rome City Commission has approved a slight change to how it structures the public participation portion of its meetings.
According to Rome City Manager Sammy Rich, the change recommended by the General Administration Committee seeks to streamline the process.
“Guests or members of the public speaking on items that are on the agenda will be scheduled near the front of the meeting following our ceremonial items and approval of the minutes,” he said. “For public comments that are not on a topic on the agenda, they would be moved to the end of the agenda, after all of the official business.”
The commission approved the change by a vote of 7-0.
The registration process, which involves reaching out to the city clerk’s office to ask to be placed on the agenda to speak, will remain the same.
