With recent developments overseas pushing oil prices higher, Georgia drivers are beginning to feel the effects at the pump.
The state average has now risen to $3.11 a gallon, up 33 cents from $2.78 on Monday morning.
“Gas prices are rising because instability in the global oil market is creating supply concerns that quickly influence prices here at home,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA-The Auto Club Group. “At the same time, refineries are switching to the more expensive summer gasoline blend, and demand is rising in anticipation of spring travel. With conditions changing quickly, it’s hard to know what’s next, which is why it’s a good time to follow the gas‑saving tips provided.”
Local averages on Tuesday were $2.84 in Floyd County, $2.95 in Gordon County, $3.10 in Bartow County, $2.74 in Chattooga County, and $2.84 in Polk County.
Nationwide Surge: Fuel Prices on the Rise
Across the nation, gas prices are on the rise, despite spring still being weeks away. The national average jumped five cents this week to $2.98. Refineries are switching to pricier summer-blend gasoline, and demand is set to rise with spring break travel next month. Adding to the pressure are global tensions tied to the conflict with Iran.
