A crash on Interstate 75 northbound in Bartow County claimed a life Thursday night when a tractor-trailer struck a pedestrian.
Georgia State Patrol troopers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers responded around 8:03 p.m. to mile marker 290, just north of exit 290 near Cartersville. The initial investigation shows 51-year-old Scott Wolcott attempted to cross the northbound lanes, and a commercial motor vehicle struck him in the middle lane. Wolcott died at the scene from his injuries.
The crash shut down all northbound lanes for an extended period as crews investigated. GDOT reports backups stretched into Cobb County, with authorities diverting traffic off at Canton Highway onto U.S. 41 North to bypass the closure.
The circumstances leading to Wolcott’s entering the interstate remain under investigation. They have not released any additional details about the truck driver or the vehicle at this time.
