Man charged with fleeing or attempting to elude
A 72-year-old Coosa man is accused of leading police on a chase on Thursday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Alan Wayne Brinson was traveling 87 in a 55-mile-per-hour zone, passing other vehicles over the double yellow line, and recklessly negotiating a hillcrest on Highway 140 at Hiram Road.
He failed to stop for a Floyd County patrol vehicle before turning left onto Old Bells Ferry Road and looking back at the pursuing officer.
Brinson continued at a high rate of speed until he was located by a second police unit.
He is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, passing in a no-passing zone, and speeding.
Woman accused of hitting an inmate at the jail
A homeless woman initially arrested for a misdemeanor count of criminal trespass was hit with a felony charge after she hit another inmate.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
42-year-old Mae Leigh Woods went to 1901 Maple Avenue after being banned from the property.
Once at the jail, she struck another inmate several times.
Woods is charged with unlawful acts of violence in a penal institution, battery, and simple assault.
Man arrested on drug charges
A Cave Spring man has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance.
According to the warrant:
31-year-old Denton Forrest Watson was found with nine Xanax pills back on January 17 at a location on East 12th Street in Rome.
He also had an undisclosed controlled substance that was not in any kind of container.
Watson is charged with possession of Schedule III and IV controlled substances and possession of drugs not in the original container.
Man charged with criminal trespass, possession of drugs past the guard line at the jail
A Silver Creek man initially arrested on a misdemeanor criminal trespass warrant is facing additional charges.
According to the warrant:
40-year-old James Franklin Madrie Jr. went to a home on Avery Road after being told numerous times by officers not to.
After being arrested and taken to jail, Madrie was found with suspected methamphetamine in his pants pocket, resulting in additional charges of possession of drugs past the guard line and possession of a controlled substance.
Madrie is also being held on a probation violation.
