A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for later this month for the new Georgia Department of Driver Services facility on Highway 27 North.
The 4,057-square-foot building is behind the Georgia State Patrol barracks.
“That’s the new building where you get your driver’s license and where you renew it,” said Floyd County Commissioner Scotty Hancock. “There was a ribbon-cutting that was scheduled, and due to the weather, we had to cancel it. The new date is February 23 at 11 a.m. I encourage you to go out there and look at that building. When people move into our community, that’s one of the first places they see when they go to get their license and address changed over. It’s a beautiful building, and it needed to be redone.”
Officials broke ground on the project in July of 2024.
The cost of the new facility is around 3 million dollars, all funded by the state.
Floyd County donated the property back in the 1960s.
