On February 9, 2026, at approximately 11:47 a.m., the Rome-Floyd Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1591 Old Rockmart Road. The initial dispatch indicated that an individual may have been trapped inside the residence.
The department deployed two engine companies, one ladder company, one rescue unit, and two chief officers, totaling 18 personnel. Upon arrival, the first crew encountered a one-story, single-family dwelling with heavy smoke and fire showing. A primary search was immediately conducted, and the victim was successfully rescued from the structure.
Fire suppression efforts quickly brought the blaze under control; however, the home sustained significant damage. The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental, resulting from cooking.
Tragically, one adult male succumbed to injuries sustained in the fire. Two additional adults were transported to Atrium Health Floyd for medical treatment. The incident displaced five residents from the home.
The Rome-Floyd Fire Department extends its deepest condolences to the family affected by this tragic event.
