The Rome City Commission will conduct a public hearing and second reading for new gas station and convenience store regulations when it meets on Monday.
The development standards have been drawn up in response to the proliferation of new convenience stores in the city and county, according to Rome-Floyd County Planning Director Bruce Wood.
“Some things like greater distance requirements between stores,” he said. “We are looking at greater distances from churches, schools, parks—you name it, and keeping them out on the major arterial roads. Gas stations rely on cars—that is their chief customer. We want them to go where the cars are, where they can be successful.”
Also slated for a public hearing is a downtown sidewalk ordinance and a request to rezone 225 Huffaker Road from Suburban-Residential to Multi-Family Residential for the construction of 20 townhouses.
The meeting begins at 6:30 pm at Rome City Hall.
During the caucus, which begins at 5 pm, the commission will hear a presentation regarding Eagle Park & Garrard Park.
