Floyd County Public Animal Welfare Services’ free microchip initiative is paying dividends.
According to PAWS Director Katy Walters, there has been an increase in the number of pets returned to their owners.
“We’ve had 178 animals returned to their owners this year,” she said. Last year was 136. We are well above the national average for that.”
Walters added that a donation has allowed PAWS to purchase a new rescue van.
“We are just waiting for the tag for that,” she said. “We’re going to get on the road and hopefully be running some good rescues and get some animals out of here.”
PAWS has also been selected to participate in the Cat’s Pride Litter for Good program.
“They have awarded us 10,800 pounds of free cat litter that is going to help shelter out a lot,” she said. “We have to cover the cost for shipping, but for that amount of litter, it’s gonna be fantastic.”
Walters gave an update during a recent Floyd County Public Safety Committee meeting.
