Monday’s Rome City Commission meeting was the last for Commissioners Jamie Doss and Randy Quick.
Doss has been on the commission for 32 years and served with former Rome City Manager John Bennett, who spoke during Monday’s meeting.
“I wouldn’t say he’s the best commissioner I ever worked with, but I would say that I cannot think of one that was any better,” he said. “He was humble. He was deliberate. He was courteous to his fellow commissioners. He was courteous to the staff, but he was also very courteous to the public that we work for.”
Mayor Craig McDaniel read a letter from Floyd County Commission Chair Allison Watters that said Doss and Quick’s service to the community has set a standard of integrity, collaboration, and true public leadership.
“Throughout their tenure, both commissioners have consistently demonstrated commitment to listening to residents, engaging in thoughtful dialogue, and working constructively with colleagues, even on complex and challenging issues,” McDaniel read. “Their cooperative approach to working with Floyd County has fostered trust, strengthened relationships, fortified our more than 30 joint agreements, and ensured that the needs community remain at the forefront of every decision.”
Doss, who served as Rome’s Mayor, as well as Mayor Pro Tem, received a memento for his years of service, which featured a photo of city hall along with his name plates from his years on the commission.
“Integrity was always a priority with the Rome City Commission,” Doss said. “A motivation for me has always been that I love this city. I love it, so thank you so much.”
Quick, who is finishing up his eighth year on the commission, received a similar token of appreciation, except with a photo of the Clocktower. The hands of the clock are set at 6:30, which is the time that the commission meets.
“It’s been an honor to work in this position,” Quick said. “It’s been an honor to work with the people I have had the privilege of working with. I only wish God’s richest blessings on the city for generations to come. Thank You.”
Quick’s service to the city does not end completely. He was appointed to serve on the Rome-Floyd County Planning Commission during Monday’s meeting.
Two new city commissioners, Jill Fisher and Vic Hixon, will be seated in January.
