Rome City Schools is pleased to announce that Dennis Drummond has been named Assistant Superintendent.
Drummond brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has served as principal at West End Elementary for the last eight years, helping the school earn state, regional, and national honors.
“I have been so blessed to be able to serve and lead at West End Elementary. They have become like family to me, and I will always count it as one of the highlights of my career. I am also humbled and grateful to Dr. Holland and our exemplary Rome City School Board for giving me this opportunity to serve the students, staff, and families of Rome City Schools in a new way.”
Drummond says. “I look forward to doing everything I can each day to support Dr. Holland’s vision of engaging students and empowering our staff to elevate Rome City Schools to new heights.”
In addition to his leadership experience, Drummond brings extensive academic preparation with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Mercer University, as well as a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia College and State University. Now in his 21st year in education, he has served as a classroom teacher, assistant principal at three schools, and principal at West End Elementary since 2018. Under his leadership, West End has earned many accolades, such as the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence – Lighthouse Award, U.S. News and World Report “Best Elementary School” recognition, Distinguished PBIS School, Family-Friendly Partnership School, the Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness, and was voted Best Public Elementary School in Rome and Floyd County six times.
Drummond is also deeply engaged in professional service, with memberships in GAEL, GAESP, NAESP, and ASCD, and has been recognized through numerous leadership honors, including the 2025 Superintendents Professional Development Program, the 2024 RCS Exemplary Leader of the Year Award, and the 2019 20 Under 40 recognition by the Rome News-Tribune.
Drummond will remain in his role as principal at West End Elementary for the next few months, and the district will begin searching for a new principal. Drummond will officially start his role as Assistant Superintendent on June 1, 2026.
