QCells has announced the temporary furlough of 1,000 workers at its Cartersville and Dalton facilities.
In addition, 300 employees hired through staffing agencies are being laid off.
According to the solar company, imported components are being held up by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection under suspicion that they contain materials that may have been made by forced labor in China.
The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, or UFLPA, was signed into law as the U.S. response to the Chinese government’s systemic use of forced labor against Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.
QCells is a division of Korean-based Hanwha Solutions.
The company denies that any of their components come from China.
