There appears to be a happy ending to a story we first brought you last month regarding an emotional plea for a rezoning request.
The applicants, who were seeking a rezoning and special use permit for a manufactured home on Forsyth Street, told the commission that they had purchased the land and were told by an out-of-town real estate agent that a trailer could go there.
However, they later found out that was not the case.
Complicating the matter, their son was taken by DFCS, and they could not get him back until they had a permanent residence.
On Monday, the applicant shared some good news.
“With help from the city, we actually got to apply for HUD housing, which I really appreciate everybody for doing,” she said. “I really just want to extend a very grateful thank you, because nobody else wanted to help us.”
The applicant also found out that the property they purchased on Forsyth Street may or may not have a clear title. So, they will have to wait at least a year for that to be resolved.
“The primary goal is to actually get your land back and be able to put a home there that you do not have to pay rent on,” said Commissioner Elaina Beeman.
The applicant told the commission that once they are approved for HUD housing, they can apply to get their son back.
