-Staff reports-

Earlier this week, it was announced that the Georgia Department of Public Health has begun administering COVID-19 vaccinations at health departments throughout Georgia based on the current vaccine supply.

Those interested in getting the vaccine should call their local health department to be sure they have the vaccine in stock before going for a COVID vaccination or other immunization.

Dr. Gary Voccio, health director for the ten-county Georgia Department of Public Health Northwest Health District, said the highest death rates from COVID-19 are among the very old and the very young. That’s why it is recommended that those in these age groups get a vaccine.

According to Dr. Voccio, you can mix and match vaccines, meaning your next dose does not have to be from the same manufacturer as any previous doses you received.

If you have had COVID-19, it is recommended that you wait at least three months before getting the vaccine.
