Believe it or not, it’s almost time for the Coosa Valley Fair.
Opening night for fall’s finest festival is this coming Tuesday.
The fair is known for its midway rides, exhibits, various attractions, and pageants, but it is also a fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting things like the Exchange Club’s Family Resource Center and the prevention of child abuse.
“We put all of our money back into the community,” said Bryan Shealy with the Coosa Valley Fair Association. “Either we funnel it through the Exchange Club or with things like premiums during the fair. Every time you see a picture or a painting with a ribbon, and that kind of thing, there is a check that goes with that. So, there is always money that is being put back. We’ve got six food booths that raise money. John Fortune’s group—the American Legion—they say that is their fundraiser for the year. They raise enough money during the fair to do their projects during the year. So, we are giving back to the community in order for them to do their non-profit stuff.”
Shealy and Watson were guests on WRGA’s First News with Doug Walker on Wednesday.
Entry Day for submissions and setup for Homemaking, Fine Arts, Photography, Community, Health, Educational, and Patriotic Agency displays, as well as the Fall Flower Show, is Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
As part of Tuesday’s Grand Opening, carloads will be admitted for $10—cash only, and no vans or trucks—from 5 until 6 p.m.
There will also be armbands for unlimited rides available for $37.
Special attractions for this year’s fair include the Jurassic Kingdom Dinosaur Show, Michael Frisbee Magic, and the Pirates of the Colombian Caribbean Aerial Show.
