This coming Saturday, teams and individuals will walk for mental health.
NAMI Rome will hold its annual NAMIWalks mental health awareness and fundraising event at Heritage Park.
“Which all of us Romans know is right around the other side of Barron Stadium behind the levee,” said Jim Moore with NAMI Rome. “We will gather there and then have some activities. One of the things that we want to do is have a contest for the best-dressed pet. We do have some prizes thanks to some local merchants.”
They will also have face painting, bead making, and other activities.
Registration starts at 9 a.m. with the walk getting underway around 11.
The walk itself is only about four blocks, so anyone can participate.
“We will make some signs, explaining why people are walking,” Moore added. Then we will walk across the footbridge to Broad Street, and then go up four blocks, turn around, and then come back. Before the walk is over, we will have some testimonies from people who have mental health issues and how they are living in recovery.”
NAMI Rome provides educational courses, presentations, and weekly support group meetings at no cost.
Donations will continue to allow NAMI Rome to deliver these programs and also expand into surrounding communities.
Register to walk and even to create a team by going to www.namiwalks.org/rome.
