The Floyd County Board of Elections and Registration will hold a public hearing on Monday to get public comments regarding proposed precinct modifications.
All proposed changes have been brought forth via registered voters within the county and investigated by the Board of Elections and Registration.
“We are going to move the precinct from the library over to a church in Celanese where their used to be a voting location,” said elections board chair Jerry Lee. “That will make parking better, and I think it will make the whole voting location better. We are tweaking a couple of other areas where voters are having to drive to a connecting roadway and then around and about. So that will help them get there a little bit quicker.”
A couple of years ago, the elections board did a comprehensive evaluation of the precincts which resulted in the number of polling places being reduced from 25 to 19.
“That saved the taxpayers some money and we haven’t seen any impact as far as making it difficult on voters,” Lee added. “In that process, there were a couple of things that we probably needed to clean up and/or tweak to make it just a little bit better.”
Monday’s public hearing will be at 6:00 p.m. at the Floyd County Elections Office located at 18 East 12th Street
A second public hearing will be held on Friday, July 18 at 6:00 p.m. where a vote will also be held.
Any person objecting thereto must file his or her objections with the superintendent prior to Friday, July 18 by the close of business.
