The Rome City School Board has approved on first reading the proposed Fiscal Year 2026 budget.
The budget anticipates revenues at $85,409,000 and expenditures at $86,370,000.
The projected fund balance on July 1, 2025, is $14,500,000.
It also projects an ending balance of $13,539,000 on June 30, 2026.
“We started on this in December,” said Director of Finance for the Rome City Schools Greg Studdard. “A lot of work has gone in from all of our principals and all our directors. We’ve had meetings and conversations back and forth. We just want to make sure that we are being good stewards of our taxpayers’ dollars. I am extremely proud of the positive trajectory of our budget and our fund balance.”
The school system is required to hold two public hearings regarding the budget. The first was held during the school board’s caucus session on Tuesday.
“We will hold our second meeting at the June caucus,” Studdard added. “We also had an all-day board retreat concerning the budget a few weeks ago. So, we have given an ample opportunity to the community to provide comments and input.”
