This coming weekend, area residents can learn more about the agencies that keep us safe during an Emergency Services Expo.

The event is scheduled for Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the East Rome Walmart.

“We’ve spoken with Georgia Power, and they have agreed to come out with a bucket truck,” said Chris Fincher with Floyd County Emergency Management. “They are going to be talking about line safety. The City of Rome’s sanitation department is going to bring out its big green recycling truck. They are going to have their grabber trucks. Those are things that are always popular with the kids. Floyd County Police will be there. The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety has got a couple of neat pieces of training equipment. One of those is a real system with a car seat, and you put a dummy in it, and it shows the impact of having a seat belt as opposed to not having one.”

EMA volunteers will be giving away free weather radios to Floyd County residents, which will be first come, first-served served.

“Please bring your driver’s license,” Fincher said. “We bought these with a grant,t and we need to be able to show that the money and the funding it going towards Floyd County. So, we do ask to bring that proof of residency to show that you do live in Floyd County.”

There will also be learning stations with CPR, First Aid, as well as tips for your child’s safety seat.
