A 14-year-old student at Rome Middle School has been arrested in connection with a threat.
Rome Middle and Rome High School were placed on a precautionary lockdown after the Rome Police Department received information Monday morning regarding a threat on social media involving Rome Middle School.
After the 14-year-old was detained the lockdown was lifted.
The following was shared by Rome City Schools and the Rome Police Department on September 9th:
“In collaboration with the Rome Police Department, Rome City Schools is placing Rome Middle and Rome High School under a precautionary Code Yellow lockdown due to some information on social media.
School instruction will continue. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We will post updates as they become available.
We take threats of violence and school safety very seriously; if you or someone you know is witness to written or spoken threats of violence or destruction, please call 9-1-1, the Anonymous Crime Tip Line at 706-236-5000, or the Rome Police Department at 706-238-5111.”
Rome City Schools released the following update at 1:51 PM:
“Rome City Schools is continuing to work with Rome City Police to investigate information from social media. Rome Middle and Rome High remain in a precautionary lockdown. We want to thank parents for their patience and cooperation.”
