Man accused of fighting police

A 52-year-old Lindale man is facing three counts of felony obstruction and three counts of simple battery on a law enforcement officer following his arrest on Maple Road Monday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Charles Wendell Hicks Jr. kicked two police officers and head-butted one.

Hicks also removed the body cam from one officer and dropped it during the altercation.

He is also charged with a single count of interference with government property.

Man accused of stealing two vehicles

A Rome man has been arrested on a couple of felony warrants charging him with theft by taking a motor vehicle.

According to the warrants:

43-year-old Thomas Wyatt Spires took a Kawasaki Mule 1100 and a Polaris 900 XP Ranger from inside a fenced-in area of the pipeline substation on Gribble Road in Aragon on March 18, 2023.

Spires gained entry to the property by cutting the fence, the warrants state.

Report: Man found with marijuana and meth at the jail

A Cedartown man initially arrested on North Fifth Avenue in Rome is also accused of having drugs while at the Floyd County Jail.

According to jail records:

48-year-old Marcus Dewayne Pace entered the jail intake with a bag concealed in his left pants leg containing 12 small baggies of marijuana and another baggie of suspected methamphetamine.

Pace is charged with possession of meth, possession of meth with the intent to distribute, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, crossing the guard line at the jail with drugs, and a probation violation.
