Report: Man attacks woman with a handheld taser

A 36-year-old Rome man is accused of attacking a woman in violation of a temporary protective order.

According to an arrest warrant:

The victim was leaving a store in the 600 block of Broad Street on Saturday when Johnny Lee Olive Sr. pulled up and chased her back inside.

Olive then tased the woman with a handheld taser, leaving a bruise on her stomach.

He then left when the victim called police.

Olive is charged with aggravated assault and aggravated stalking.

Woman facing two counts of aggravated animal cruelty

A North Rome woman was arrested at her Kingston Avenue home Tuesday on a felony warrant charging her with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

According to the warrant:

33-year-old Bridgette Danielle Holcomb was the owner of a female pit mix who had been suffering from a prolapsed uterus for about five days.  

Another pit mix had been tethered to a fence for an unknown amount of time without access to food or water.

The tether had become embedded in the dog’s neck and the wound was infested with maggots.

Man accused of fleeing from police in Lindale

A 36-year-old Rome man is facing multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from police in a vehicle and on foot in the Floyd County Industrial Park in Lindale Tuesday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Joshua Mize drove in a reckless manner, running a stop sign and failing to maintain a lane in the area of Governors Drive and Industrial Boulevard.

Once apprehended, Mize was found with suspected cocaine and marijuana.

He was also driving with a suspended license.

Four arrested for drugs on Moran Lake Road

Rome-Floyd Metro Task Force officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Moran Lake Road Tuesday and arrested four people on drug charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

55-year-old Eugene Douglas Gresham had multiple bags of methamphetamine weighing 28 grams and less than an ounce of marijuana, along with packaging materials and digital scales.

He is charged with trafficking meth, possession of meth with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, and possession of drug-related objects.

Meanwhile, 47-year-old Vanessa Nicole Clark is charged with possession of meth.

32-year-old Katlyn Diane Striplin is charged with possession of meth, possession of cocaine, and possession of drug-related objects.

And 35-year-old Jimmy Ray Hoppes is charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

Report: Man claims ownership of gun, gets arrested

A 35-year-old Rome man was arrested on Turner McCall Boulevard on a felony count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Xavier Cortez Cheeks was taken into custody after he spontaneously stated that a firearm located in his vehicle belonged to him.

Felon arrested after being found with a gun

A 69-year-old Rome man was arrested at his Cole Road home on a felony warrant charging him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to the warrant:

Floyd County Police found Arthur Dennie Champion in possession of a .38 special during a call for service on Monday.

It was later discovered that Champion had a criminal conviction back on 2001.
