Alabama man charged with criminal attempt to commit aggravated child molestation

A man from Huntsville, Alabama is accused of traveling to Floyd County to meet someone he thought was a minor for sex.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

39-year-old B.J. Helton made internet contact with a person he believed to be under the age of 16 and then engaged in a graphic conversation, sending the child lewd pictures of himself and making the journey to meet the “child.”

At the time of his arrest, Helton had suspected methamphetamine and two glass smoking devices.

He is charged with criminal attempt to commit aggravated child molestation, furnishing obscene materials to a minor, electronic enticement of a minor, obscene internet contact with a child, possession of meth, and possession of drug-related objects.

Report: Man had stolen handgun, drugs

Rome-Floyd Metro Task Force officers executed a search warrant at a home on East Glover Street and arrested a Rome man on multiple charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

42-year-old Taurus Deray Jackson had a stolen Ruger handgun, less than an ounce of marijuana, and sildenafil, which is similar to Viagra.

Jackson is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by receiving stolen property, possession of dangerous drugs, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Man charged with trafficking meth

A Dallas, Georgia man was booked into the Floyd County Jail early Tuesday on drug charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

A vehicle driven by 53-year-old Terry Hayden Rittenhouse drifted from his lane on Turner McCall Boulevard, almost striking a Rome Police Department patrol vehicle.

The officer stopped the vehicle and Rittenhouse was found with approximately 44 grams of methamphetamine, a glass pipe, a scale, a spoon, and less than an ounce of marijuana.

He is charged with trafficking meth, possession of meth with the intent to distribute, possession of drug-related objects, DUI, distracted driving, and failure to maintain a lane.

Man accused of having cell phones while an inmate

A 51-year-old man from Pendergrass, Georgia has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with possession of items prohibited for inmates.

According to the warrant:

Joseph Lamar Sanders, while an inmate at the Floyd County Prison in January of this year, was found to be in possession of four cell phones, four charging adaptors, four magnets, and a cell phone tool.

The items were discovered during a pat-down search during a work detail sign-out.

Warrant: Man violated sex offender registry law

A man arrested for a probation violation on September 6 is now additionally charged with violating Georgia’s Sex Offender Registry Law.

According to a warrant on file at the jail:

29-year-old Tyler Ray Dill failed to notify the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office within 72 hours after moving from his residence on South Broad Street, as required by law.
