Three new contenders qualified for Rome City Commission seats early Monday alongside two sitting city commissioners.
Local businessman Harry Brock, developer Wayne Robinson, and community activist Charles Love qualified Monday. Brock and Love will run in Ward 1 and Robinson will run in Ward 3.
Ward 1 incumbent Jim Bojo qualified for his seat Monday morning. The other two seats in Ward 1 are currently held by Sundai Stevenson and Mark Cochran. Stevenson has said she will run again, however, Cochran has said he’s still considering his options.
Incumbent Craig McDaniel qualified early Monday for his Ward 3 post. The other two commissioners from Ward 3 are Bill Collins and Bonny Askew. Both Collins and Askew have indicated they intend to run.
Qualifying continues through Friday for both the Rome City Commission and Cave Spring City Council posts up for election in November.
Six of the nine Rome City Commission seats are up for grabs, along with two of the five Cave Spring City Council posts.
Three candidates qualified for the Cave Spring seats on Monday before 11 a.m.
Incumbent Tim Lindsey qualified for his seat on Post 1 alongside a challenger, former Cave Spring Mayor Dennis Shoaf. Nancy Fricks qualified for Post 2, currently held by incumbent Joyce Mink.
Qualifying started Monday and runs through 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, in both cities.
