Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has announced the awarding of $2.2 million dollars to help revamp Banty Jones Park.

The grant is a portion of more than $225 million for 142 qualified projects that improve neighborhood assets like parks, recreation facilities, sidewalks, and healthy food access in communities all across the state impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The cost for the entire design is estimated at around $4.2. million.

Other funding sources include several years of Community Development Block Grant funds, as well as city funds through the America Rescue Plan Act and Choice Neighborhood Planning Grant funds through the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority.

The concept plan includes open-air pavilions, a stage with seating for small performances, a grilling and picnic area, playgrounds, a game area for horseshoes and corn hole, a workout area with fitness equipment, swing benches, a boardwalk, and even an area for food trucks.

The goal is to make Banty Jones Rome’s newest community park.
