Man charged following scuffle with police

A homeless man was arrested near Big Lots in West Rome Tuesday on a felony count of obstruction of officers.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

51-year old Roscoe Lascott Covington physically resisted arrest and was found in possession of a 9mm handgun.

He was additionally charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

Covington is also wanted on an arrest warrant in Alabama and is charged with being a fugitive from justice.

Man charged with aggravated animal cruelty

A 46-year old Rome man is accused of failing to get veterinary care for his dog after it was struck by a vehicle.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

The dog was hit about two weeks ago and is suffering from two broken hip bones.

46-year old Jamal Lashawn Richmond is charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals.

Inmate accused of fighting, resisting jail officers

An inmate at the Floyd County Jail has been charged with felony and misdemeanor counts of obstruction of officers.

According to jail records:

30-year old Cody Lee Little fought one jail officer and resisted two others on Tuesday.

Little has been in jail since March 17 when he was picked up on a couple of probation violations.

Man charged with entering an auto

A Rome man is accused of breaking into a convertible on the Binkley’s storage lot by cutting the roof of the vehicle.

According to Floyd County Jail records and an arrest warrant:

56-year old Jesse Michael Cushing Sr. also stole items from the vehicle.

He is charged with entering an automobile, criminal trespass (damage to property), and a probation violation.

Report: Man damaged carport on Dean Avenue

A Cave Spring man has been jailed on a felony warrant charging him with 2nd-degree criminal damage to property.

According to the warrant:

42-year old Garth Devin Snyder intentionally damaged the carport of a commercial property at 1517 Dean Avenue.

The damage, which occurred on May 16, was listed at more than $1,600.
