A 78-year-old man died after being struck by a pickup truck on Highway 27 near the Cedartown Walmart Monday morning.

According to the Georgia State Patrol:

At approximately 5:05 a.m., a GSP Trooper responded to a vehicle vs pedestrian crash near Oak Grove Road.

The investigation revealed a pedestrian was standing in a dark, unlit area in the right lane of the highway.

A white Ford F-150 was traveling south on Highway 27 in the right lane.

The driver of the Ford attempted to avoid the pedestrian by steering left but was unable to and struck the pedestrian with the front of the Ford.

The pedestrian, James Eddie Guice of Cedartown, was pronounced dead at the scene.
