Additional charge filed in murder investigation

A 21-year-old Rome man charged with murder is facing an additional charge.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Ellis Geoffery Marrs has now been charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Marrs is accused of shooting and killing 51-year-old Iris Dail Edwards of Woodstock Saturday evening in the yard of a residence on Shadowbrook Drive.

Man struck by vehicle arrested for PUI

A Rome man was arrested for being a pedestrian under the influence of alcohol after he was struck by a vehicle early Thursday on Huffacker Road near Southern Industrial Boulevard.

According to a Rome Police Department report:

23-year-old Luis Orlando Rodriguez was walking home and was in the road when the accident occurred. He was not seriously injured but was obviously under the influence. He was taken to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center and then to jail.

The report indicates that the driver of the Toyota pickup that hit Rodriguez was cited for distracted driving.

Two arrested on meth possession charges

Two people were arrested after they were found with methamphetamine at a location on Kraftsman Road Wednesday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

44-year-old Cecil Lynn Peek of Lindale had a baggie of meth in the vehicle.

47-year-old Beverly Ann Wheeler of Rome had meth and a glass smoking device.

She was also in possession of a baggie of meth past the guard line at the jail.

Report: Man threw syringes out of window during traffic stop

A 41-year-old Rome man was recently arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Levi Thomas Scherer was found with a white, powdery substance during a traffic stop on Alabama Highway at Highway 101.

He also reportedly threw syringes out of the passenger side window.

A powdery substance was also later discovered on the brush guard of the police patrol vehicle near where Scherer had been sitting.
