Alabama Highway was blocked Tuesday afternoon after a dump truck overturned, spilling dirt onto the roadway. It was also a close call for a Floyd County school bus.

According to Floyd County Police:

The dump truck was traveling westbound, just west of Barker Road when the driver, 50-year-old Oliver Ashley of Lindale, noticed a school bus had stopped at the railroad tracks. He swerved to avoid rear-ending the bus and the dump truck overturned.

The dump truck did clip the mirror of the bus that was transporting students from Alto Park.

The bus did not sustain any other damage and was able to continue on its route.

There were 46 children on the bus, and none of them were hurt.

Ashley was transported to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center and is expected to survive his injuries.

He has been cited for driving too fast for conditions.

The incident occurred at around 3 p.m. Tuesday.
