Bartow County deputies booked 17-year-old Benjamin Ray Hyde into the jail on Sunday morning for aggravated battery.

His girlfriend stated that while lying in bed at their residence on Catherine Way near Cartersville on Saturday night, he stomped on her abdomen and struck her in the head several times with his fist. The victim said after convincing Hyde she was seriously hurt, he took her to the hospital, where she learned she had a laceration to her spleen and suffered a severe internal injury that could have been fatal if not treated. Medical personnel told a deputy the victim needed a blood transfusion due to the damaged spleen.

The woman also told the deputy that Hyde had terrorized her over the past year by beating her, cutting her with a knife, and pouring chemicals on her. She pointed out a permanent scar on her right arm, where she stated Hyde cut her in January.

As of Tuesday morning, Benjamin Hyde remained in the Bartow County Jail with a bond set at $6,000.
