One person died in a house fire Friday evening in Cartersville.

According to the Cartersville Fire Department:

Firefighters responded to a home at 9 Brookwood Drive after a neighbor called 911 and stated the structure was fully engulfed in flames.

Fire crews confirmed heavy fire and smoke involvement and began defensive operations. One fatality was also confirmed.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is working to confirm the identity of the victim.

The cause and origin of the fire are currently under investigation.
